Rules for Seven Card Stud

7 Card Stud rulesThe game of seven card stud has become a very popular type of poker, perhaps only exceeded in popularity by the wildly successful Texas Hold’Em. Seven card stud can be played at brick and mortar casinos, in online poker rooms or with friends. Whether you are playing the game in the real world or on your computer, it is important to know the rules, and to understand how to build a winning hand.

Seven card stud is one of those poker games in which the players are deal some of the cards face up and others face down. As play begins, the dealer will deal seven cards to each of the players at the table. The dealer will deal two cards in the hole, followed by one card face up. After the opening bets are made, three more cards are dealt face up. After each card is dealt another round of betting will take place. The last card is dealt face down, and final bets are then made. The players are then free to create their hands using five of the seven cards they have been dealt.

This is the basic structure of a game of seven card stud.

  1. Each of the players places their ante.
  2. The dealer deals out three cards to each of the players. Two cards are dealt face down and the third is dealt face up. The face down cards are known as “hole cards”, while the face up card is called the “door card”.
  3. Each player places a first bet if they wish. Players also have the option to fold their hands. All players remaining in the game are dealt one card face up. Each player places an additional bet, or folds the hand.
  4. An additional face up card is dealt to each player. Again the players have to option to bet or fold the hand.
  5. All players remaining in the game are dealt one last face up card, and again the players have the option to bet and take the card or fold their hands.
  6. The final card is dealt face down, and the final round of bets is made.
  7. After all the bets are in, the showdown is ready to take place. All players who have remained in the game will show their hands, with the best hand winning the accumulated pot.
